Wuxi, Jiangsu – Yoke Technology will supply glass fibre reinforced polyurethane insulation panels to China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) for LNG carriers.
Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding is a carrier builder for Russia’s Yamal project, the world’s largest Arctic producer of LNG.
The contract is worth CNY 39m ($6m). Yoke will provide material for the carriers’ cargo tank membrane containment system typed No 96-L-03+. This is a new-generation system that could reduce evaporation, said Yoke’s announcement.
‘Yoke is China’s first maker of reinforced PU insulation panel used in ships,' said the announcement. 'The contract marks the first time such China-made material is used in large LNG carriers’ No 96-L-03+ system.'
Yoke received a certificate for the material in January from French company GTT, a leading player in LNG containment technology. This makes it the first Chinese maker qualified to supply globally.
According to local securities research firm SWS, Korea’s Hankuk Carbon and Dongsung FINETEC currently account for 90% of the global market for PU insulation panels used in liquified natural gas carriers.
