Cleveland, Ohio - Lubrizol Corp. has launched a flame-retardant thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) product suitable for medical applications, which it says is "the first of its kind" to feature high flame properties, low halogen content and a soft, matte or gloss finish.
Lubrizol noted that in medical applications, a material's limiting oxygen index (LOI) is a critical component. The company added in a 6 June news release that with an LOI of 30, its new TPU demonstrates "excellent flame retardancy". The TPU also has low smoke and low toxicity.
