Barcelona, Spain -- Breco Antriebstechnik Breher GmbH & Co. KGhas developed a new range of timing belts made from a bio-thermoplastic polyurethane, said Lubrizol Advanced Materials, Inc. in a statement.
The product was developed five years ago by Merquinsa, said Lubrizol.,
Lubrizol added that its Pearlthane Eco D12T90 material that has 38% biobased content according to ASTM-D6868 and is used in Brecogreen and Brecoflexgreen timing belts. Lubrizol said this offers an alternative to companies which want to avoid using fully-petroleum derived materials.
This grade of TPU was chosen because it has a proportion of bio-based content and good, processability, very good hydrolysis and abrasion resistance, and has lower density and improved low temperature flexibility in comparison to other polymer options for the same end-use applications, Lubrizol adds.
Lubrizol will be at Stand C10, Hall 6 at K 2013 in Dusseldorf, Germany 16 to 23 October 2013.
