Cleveland, Ohio – Lubrizol’s engineered polymers business has introduced a new, toluene-free, thermoplastic polyurethane for adhesive powders, films and webs. The product, Pearlbond 1170L, has improved resistance to heat, washing and dry cleaning cycles.
It joins the existing Pearlbond series high-melt strength products for adhesive formulators, 1160 and 1160L. These are used for demanding end-uses such as fire hoses, and thermobonding films for footwear, furniture, apparel, sealing tapes and automotive interior trim.
The Pearlbond products all offer short cycle times, good wetting properties and excellent waterproof performance, the company claims. The gel-free properties and high melt strength make the materials suitable for film and sheet conversion applications, it added.
‘Customers will appreciate the versatility, reliability and convenience in demanding applications,' said Gonzalo Loewenberg, global technical business manager for Lubrizol Engineered Polymers.
