Cleveland, Ohio - The Lubrizol Corp. is expanding its non-halogen flame retardant (NHFR) portfolio with the launch of Estane ZHF92AT3 thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) formulated for flexible cable jacketing.
The TPU, Lubrizol said, is UL = V-0 (Underwriters Laboratories) with a Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of 33 percent, compared to standard ratings of 25 percent for typical NHFR TPUs. The higher LOI means it is more difficult for the cable jacketing to ignite and/or sustain a flame, the 18 June statement said.
The TPU was designed to meet the UL1601 single cable fame test (3 x 60 seconds). While maintaining its flexibility, the company said, adding that the TPU grade passes UL1601, making it ideal for smaller jacket thickness (0.7mm) and cable diameters below 5mm. (RD)
