Wickliffe, Ohio - Lubrizol Corp. has added eight aromatic products to its Carbothane line of polycarbonate-based thermoplastic polyurethanes, which it says encompasses a range of grades and radio opacities.
Lubrizol said in a 23 Jan news release that compared with current technologies, its aromatic Carbothane TPU has improved strength and chemical resistance, and increased resistance to creep. It added that the product is suitable for long-term implantation applications, such as catheters, as well as for permanent implants used in spinal and orthopaedic applications.
"Customers who are looking for a product with notable material strength and enhanced chemical resistance will find aromatic Carbothane an attractive option, especially for implantable devices that are designed to remain in the body for long periods of time," commented Ralf Hüther, global business manager, Lubrizol LifeScience Polymers.
The product is available in four clear grades and four radio-opaque grades, which include a 20-percent loading of barium sulphate.
