Brussels — EuroPUR presented Luc Jourquin with its inaugural lifetime achievement award here at a gala dinner to celebrate the association's 50th anniversary and AGM.
Jourquin started working in the flexible PU foam industry in 1952. The Praesidium of EuroPUR said: "He is known as a key developer of polyester foams, HR foams and rigid foams.
"He is recognised to have developed the basis of variable pressure foaming as a valid alternative for CFC replacement and was a driving force in the light stability both of foams and PU elastomeric skins."
Jourquin spent his career working for Recticel in Wetteren, Belgium.
Jourquin said of the early European polyurethane industry “It was the period when people had made the right mix, they produced until the dough was completely used up, often until the middle of the night. When the blocks rose more than a few centimetres, people felt like drinking a bottle of champagne.”
