London – Global polyurethane machinery-makers' confidence crept upwards in 2021 to above the long-term average.
Machinery sector beats expectations in 2021
In 2021, the UTMcIndex was 4.75, up from 4.70 in 2020, but down from an all-time high of 6.19 in 2019. The average annual figure since 2012, when we started calculating the index, is 4.68. Over the past five years, the industry has been becoming slightly more optimistic, returning an average value of 5.0
Urethanes Technology International/UTECH-polyurethanes.com generated this year's Index after surveying machinery companies across the world in February and early March 2021.
The companies were asked if they wanted to expand their business, upgrade facilities, consolidate, build new plants, buy competitors, or sell part or all of the company.
We then normalise the respondents' results in each category by the number of respondents, and an index is calculated. This accounts for how positive the actions are.
