Alexandria, Virginia – The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) has launched a programme designed to mitigate the cost of collecting illegally dumped mattresses in California.
Payments for dumped mattresses can be claimed by agencies such as local governments, permitted solid waste facilities and authorised solid waste operations. They must first register with MRC, and track the number of illegally dumped mattresses and box springs they collect from public rights of way.
MRC has set aside $750,000 to fund this programme in 2016. California implemented MRC’s recycling programme at the end of 2015, and in the long run it should greatly reduce the illegal dumping of mattresses.
