Lisbon – Asian polyol maker MCNS plans to open a systems house in St Petersburg, Russia, according to Chol Ho Lee, senior manager of its PU Technical Centre. He was talking on the sidelines of the EuroPUR annual meeting.
The company is already supplying 30kt/year rigid polyols to Samsung plants in Poland, and could supply up to 5kT/year to OEM and Tier 1 suppliers in Russia, he added.
The office in Moscow is 'the best way for us to evaluate the market in Russia', Lee said. He added that the Russian market is about the same size as India.
MCNS has agreed to acquire land in St Petersburg to build the systems house. Construction is scheduled to start in September, and it is likely to be complete by early 2020. The company will receive tax breaks for the new site. A range of rigid and flexible polyol systems will be developed for the local market and OEMs operating there.
Hyundai, Toyota and Nissan are car companies operating in and around the city. LG is among domestic appliance makers which are located in the city.
