The West Henrietta Fire Department declared a level 1 HazMat incident, and the county hazmat team searched the building for further victims and mitigated the spill. In all, five workers from Frederico Demolition were affected. Three were taken to hospital. Two are reported to be in a critical condition, and the third’s condition is serious.
According to local ABC news affiliate WHAM, assistant fire chief Mark Cholach said there were three or four tanks of MDI within the facility. These had been cleaned out, and the workers were demolishing the tanks and associated pipework. The exposure appears to have come from one of the pipes.
Agencies including the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are now investigating.
