Meenakshi Polymers opens PU seating plant in Hosur

Mumbai – Meenakshi Polymers is expanding, with one new plant opening, and a further new facility being planned. The Gurugram-based company, makes a diverse range of PU-based automotive and lifestyle products.

It recently opened its 10^th facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. This will largely serve the automotive sector in the region. The company is initially investing about INR25m ($295k) at the plant, with further phased investments in future.

An 11^th plant is now being planned, in Pune, the largest automotive hub in western India. The company has a current annual capacity of 12 million automotive seating systems, and thus far has supplied 45m seats to the sector.

“The Hosur plant has the capacity to produce one million two-wheeler seats,” CEO Kunal Soni told Urethanes Technology International at the recent UTECH India show in Mumbai. “The site has already started supplying the electric two-wheeler seating systems to OEMs like Kinetic, Revolt and River Mobility, and PU-based NVH parts to Nissan for its car range.”

In addition to its Indian facilities, the company also operates two overseas sites, in the neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Nepal. The Bangladesh plant serves Indian two-wheeler OEMS including Bajaj and, in the future, TVS and Honda. Bus seating systems for the local market are made at the Nepalese plant.

In addition to automotive seating systems, it makes NVH parts for OEM customers such as Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover. The company also makes foam-based products including mattresses and memory foam pillows.
