Sao Paulo, Brazil -- BASF Coatings in Brazil has received the "Premio Interaçao Mercedes-Benz," as one of the carmaker's most important suppliers of 2008, for outstanding results in quality, cost reduction and cooperation.
BASF said it was the only paint manufacturer to receive such an award. The coatings group also pointed out that it has supplied Mercedes in Brazil with automotive paints for more than three decades.
In 2008 alone, as part of a specific project, BASF Coatings said it supplied Mercedes-Benz with 35 different paints, including polyurethane and polyester types. "These paints were key components in the overall production process," according to Ricardo Santos, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil Material procurement director, in a 23 Jan 2009 statement from BASF.
BASF "worked intensively to develop special colours ... to meet our customer's requirements," said Rene Postema, head of Automotive Coatings in South America.
BASF managed to surpass Mercedes' expectations and met all the delivery dates. "The prize is a distinction for the entire team, which concentrates on continued improvement of the products and services and has achieved outstanding results in everything they do," Postema said.
