Tokyo — Mitsui, the Japanese diisocyanate producer plans to move further up the value chain with its MDI business, according to its recently published medium term management plan.
The document said that Mitsui plans to move away from general purpose products with specialty products sold separately and will accelerate a shift towards systems sales into Southeast Asia, India and North America. Separately, it will target HDI materials at the medical sector, according to the document.
Mitsui estimates that demand for MDI in Asia will average around 6%,with India leading the way at 10% and Southeast Asia at around 8%. This will take demand from around 235kT/year in 2015 to around 280 kT/year, the company estimates.
