By Liz White, UT staffVancouver, British Columbia-American Insulock Inc. is to adapt its new production system for making insulating PU concrete forms (known as Insulock blocks) for mobile use. The company said 22 Feb it intends to configure the design used for stationary equipment for use in a truck or trailer. The aim is to enable Insulock blocks to be made on site and in remote areas. The mobile option will include an electricity generator capable of powering all of the electrical systems, as well as the necessary storage and handling systems for liquid polyurethane. "Since liquid polyurethane expands approximately 40 times its volume, being able to produce blocks in remote areas can eliminate shipping and warehousing costs," the firm's statement said. The cost of the mobile system will depend on the option required by the customer, which may range from lightweight trailers, single enclosed cargo trucks, to full size freight trailers, said the Canadian firm. American Insulock said interested parties are invited to visit the company's Mesa Arizona facility to see the block-making equipment in use.Rather than the polystyrene used by virtually every other manufacturer of insulating concrete forms, American Insulock uses polyurethane. This makes the block, "much stronger than polystyrene blocks," claims the company. As a result, soundwalls and buildings made from the blocks are highly effective at absorbing sound and that have an R-30 or R-38 heat insulating value, the company said. "
