The Seattle-based prototyper said it developed the material "in response to a growing demand for high-end, fire-retardant parts."The low viscosity and high heat capabilities of this new fire-retardant urethane, combined with our knowledgeable staff's experience in product development, offers yet another competitive advantage to the leading product designers and manufacturers we serve," said Moeller Design & Development's director of technical services Lloyd Murrey, in a company statement. Urethane casting remains the fastest method in product development, the firm stresses, allowing rapid transformation of CAD models to functional prototypes. Continued advances in material properties allow such functional prototypes to seamlessly undergo regulatory testing followed by their immediate release for low-volume, high-value production parts. Part size and complexity are not limited, giving "a host of opportunities in the highly regulated aircraft and medical device industries," Moeller said. Cast urethanes can replicate various advanced engineering thermoplastics such as polycarbonate, nylon and ABS. This new casting polyurethane is UL 94VO certified and adds to similar materials in Moeller's MDD 800 Series of urethane resins. "
