Wiscasset, Maine -- Swedish company Molnlycke Health Care has bought Rynel Inc., a US manufacturer of speciality absorbent polyurethane foam products for medical and other uses.

Rynel was founded in 1973 as Twin Rivers Engineering in East Boothbay, Maine, expanding to what it says is "a custom built, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility," in Wiscasset, Maine, in 2005.

The company currently employs more than 70 people.

Rynel supplies companies in North America, Europe, Africa and the Far East with products for a wide range of foam applications.

Molnlycke Health Care, headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, is among the world's leading suppliers of single-use medical supplies, said Rynel in its announcement.

Rynel has supplied foam for Molnlycke's advanced woundcare line, which has helped patients around the world heal with less pain and trauma.

Molnlycke has said it is committed to keeping the company in Maine and continuing to grow Rynel's capabilities and profitability. The Swedish company is known globally for having a solid reputation and being employee-focused.

As part of Mölnlycke, Rynel will keep its name and continue to be a premier manufacturer of speciality absorbent polyurethane foam products.

Rynel began by developing processing equipment for reactive pluralcomponent mixing and dispensing systems, and says its experience hereled it to develop advanced hydrophilic polyurethane prepolymers andproducts using the unique characteristics of the material.

According to its website, Rynel is vertically integrated, manufacturing polyurethane prepolymers and processing them into semi-finished and finished products. Rynel is registered with the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) as a medical device manufacturer and operates under QSR/GMP disciplines. Rynel is also ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 13485:2003 certified.

"Our business model continues the strategy of working with customers to engineer foam for their needs and serving as a contract manufacturer," said the company. Rynel added that it is committed to its original mission of being innovative within the foam marketplace and continuing to partner with customers.

Rynel feels it is recognised for innovation and product quality, with its foams "the first choice of many major medical" groups across the world.
