Chennai, India - Momentive Performance Materials and Anabond are to jointly develop and make SPUR (silicone-tipped polyurethane) sealants in India, and aim to launch the products by the third quarter this year.
In the deal, Momentive will contribute its research, development support and expertise in SPUR (silicone/polyurethane hybrid) pre-polymers, while Chennai-based Anabond will manufacture the product in its Puducherry plant to serve the local market.
Momentive will market SPUR sealants for construction while Anabond will market them to automotive and electrical & electronics users, under license from Momentive.
According to Momentive, hybrid SPUR sealants are non-staining, non-bleeding, paintable and have high strength. As well as offering primerless adhesion, they cure rapidly and give good durability.
"This development … is in line with Momentive India's vision of combining global technology with local application development," said VP Nalian, managing director of Momentive Performance Materials in India.
Nalian said Anabond's expertise in automotive adhesive and sealants combined with its manufacturing capabilities "will help us develop high end SPUR sealant applications and bring this world-class product to the Indian customers in a cost effective manner."
