Shenzhen, China - Polyurethane additives manufacturer Momentive Performance Materials introduced new high-performance foam products at PU China, 26-28 May, at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Centre, in the year the company celebrates its 70th anniversary.
The new materials are suitable for use across a wide variety of applications, including slabstock, moulded, rigid and special foams, said Momentive in a press statement for the PU China event.
"China has become a high-growth market across all segments of polyurethane foam," said Tony Lanchak, global business director for Urethane Additives with Momentive, a sentiment echoed by many participants in the three day event, organised jointly by Crain Communications Ltd of London and China MinMetals Corp. of Beijing.
Momentive is "well positioned to move opportunistically in this industry, building on our local infrastructure, capabilities and product portfolio," Lanchak added, noting that the silicone additives supplier has "state-of-the-art technical centers and dedicated polyurethane foam experts," which offer expertise in applications and process expertise, to "help our customers meet even the most rigorous performance requirements."
Momentive's new range of Niax-brand products includes:
•silicone L-595, a medium-high potency silicone for flexible slabstock foam with good porosity, fine regular cell structure and superior density distribution.
•silicone L-3627, a low-emission silicone surfactant for high resilience (HR) moulded polyurethane foam, typically used alone to promote optimum cell opening and provide stabilisation.
•silicone L-6840, an organosilicone copolymer for the resin side in making rigid polyurethane foams for refrigerators and cool-store applications. It is compatible with pentanes and other hydrophilic polyol compositions, typically offering low thermal conductivity, good foam flow, even density distribution and reduced void formation, said Momentive.
•silicone L-3629, a silicone surfactant for HR moulded PU foam applications, where the user wants lower emissions: it is highly effective in stabilising low density foam, helping provide good cell structure, fewer surface voids, and reduced vent collapse, while offering wide processing latitude.
