Albany, New York - Momentive Performance Materials has launched Niax silicone L-655, a silicone stabiliser "to be considered for use in manufacturing flexible polyether foam," the company said 4 Dec.
According to Momentive, the new stabiliser can offer a 10 - 30 percent reduction by weight of flame retardant in slabstock foam applications, compared to conventional stabilisers.
The company said that Niax L-655 helps to provide "excellent froth formation and stability to make soft and low-density foam grades." The stabiliser may also help boost flame-retardant performance for flexible polyurethane foam at reduced levels, Momentive added.
"This new stabiliser is an excellent and versatile candidate for use in a wide range of slabstock foam applications, and may help manufacturers increase the performance of their foam, while significantly reducing flame retardant use," said Alberto Melle, global marketing manager, Momentive.
