Waterford, New York -- Momentive Performance Materials Inc said it plans to launch a new 2-EHA-free slabstock catalyst, in a statement.
Designated Niax Catalyst D-25, Momentive said the launch is scheduled for the 2013 Polyurethanes Technical conference September 23-25 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Momentive added that the catalyst is being launched "in response to the industry need for an alternative material without 2-EHA, which is a chemical listed on California's Proposition 65".
The firm added that the material is designed for conventional, high resilience and viscoelastic foam. It has high catalytic efficiency in the polyurethane reaction at similar use levels to stannous octoate a widely used catalyst for these foams.
Momentive added that, Niax D-25 is a clear, colourless to light yellow fluid with "medium" viscosity and good solubility in polyether polyols and most organic solvents. It promotes the isocyanate-hydroxyl reaction in polyurethane foams, said Momentive, which added that it is a TSCA registered product.
