Duffel, Belgium -- Mondi Belcoat says it has answered market demand for customised breathable membranes by installing a new modular air dryer, enabling the plant to include the extrusion coating of hydrophilic polymers on non-wovens in their portfolio.
"The new polydryer supports a continuous production process of moisture sensitive polymers, ranging from master batches to breathable monolithic polymers and polyester," said Jurgen Van der Donck, managing director of Mondi Belcoat, in a 9 Nov Mondi statement. "This upgrade significantly increases the speed of our process, resulting in higher capacity and improved efficiency, while at the same time creating economies of scale for individual customer applications," he added.
Customers who benefit from this upgrade will be those whose applications demand optimum barrier control and breathability -- including breathable roofing membranes with UV stability, mattress covers as well as medical disposable products such as drapes and gowns.
Mondi says the polydryer allows it to produce unique, state-of-the-art breathable products according to the highest quality standards. And it ensures maximum flexibility when tailoring the coating layer to the customer´s specific requirements.
The polydryer was presented during a Mondi symposium which included top-level speakers and panel discussions about developments in the European construction market, future housing trends and quality developments in breathable roofing membranes.
