Vienna -- Mondi Coatings is investing Euro 13 million ($17.4 million) in extrusion infrastructure across Europe to optimise its production systems in response to customer demand for extrusion-coated solutions, a 2 April company statement said.
Mondi said it is adopting a "dual strategy" of upgrading existing extruders while also setting up new "tandem-enabled infrastructure" where necessary.
"Our strategic focus on optimising operations across our European plant network will allow us to provide customers with the highest quality products and much greater flexibility," said Mondi Coatings ceo, Thomas Schäbinger.
The Austrian company's production plant in Örebro, Sweden, will be upgraded with additional high-speed tandem processing in 2010. "Particularly in the Scandanavian region, there is a clear trend towards coating consumer products," Schäbinger said, adding that with the investment Mondi can run "two-sided products" with different variations of resins, "and include board, milk board, cupstock or board for frozen food," he added.
Mondi has also installed a web inspection system at its plant in Zeltweg, Austria and is boosting its capacity at its Štetí plant in the Czech Republic with the installation of additional co-extrusion technology.
A poly dryer for processing high-tech polymers will also be added at Mondi's plant in Belcoat, Belgium, the statement added.
Paper and packaging group Mondi makes paper facings for the polyurethane/polyisocyanurate insulation board industry, with its Coating & Release business offering building industry products, including insulation materials and building membranes based on advanced polymer technology, new raw materials and co-extrusion technology.
