Speyer, Germany – Haltermann Carless claims it will become the world's largest supplier of cyclopentane blowing agents for rigid polyurethane foam when its new plant comes on stream in Germany in early 2022.
The project started in 2018 and was halted last year during Germany's coronavirus lockdowns. Construction restarted in the third quarter of 2020
The company said it had invested a high-double-digit Euro sum. The company declined to specify the pentane output of the new plant, but did say it would be higher than its current 20kT/year.
The new plant is being built to handle a wider range of petrochemical feedstocks than the original. There should be significant growth in demand in the coming years exceeding industry growth, it said. This will be driven in part by its use in rigid polyurethane foam as an insulating blowing agent.
Haltermann Carless plans to supply customers around the world from the plant.
