St Louis, Missouri - Global Theming Products llc has launched a new fire-retardant polyurethane coating for foam, wood and other lightweight substrates. The 'hard coating,' called Chemthane 7001FR, gives various advantages and reduces the labour costs associated with spray polyurethane resins.
* Users do not have to sand down cured resin for a "glass-like" surface. Chemthane 7001FR has been engineered to flow out better during the initial 6-8 second cure-to-the-touch time.
* The coating conforms to the rigid fire rating of ASTM E-84 Class 1/Class A and British Standard BS-476 Part 7 for minimal smoke generation and flame spread.
* Impact resistance (>80 in lbs) and tensile strength (>3000 psi) have both been improved to better meet the requirements of architectural, retail and themed entertainment markets.
The aim was to make the "best fire-retardant polyurethane coating that isn't over-complicated or cost-prohibitive for our customers. We are pushing ahead aggressively with our next generation fire-retardant polyurethane resins and Chemthane 7001FR establishes a future platform for us to extend our lead in this area," commented John Henningsen, owner of Global Theming Products, in a company statement. Customers "can have the industry's best fire retardant product to conform to stringent building/fire codes," he added.
With the new coating, speciality fabricators can reproduce foam shapes, props and architectural trim in a composite of expanded polystyrene (EPS), urethane foam or other lightweight materials in minutes, instead of the hours associated with polyester fibreglass or cement-like coatings, the company said.
As Henningsen said, with the new material, "you can coat 200 linear feet of finished foam in the time it would take to cover 20 feet in fibreglass."
