Ridgefield Park, New Jersey - Samsung Electronics has added a 29 cu.ft (820 litre) French door refrigerator, which has 4 cu.ft more space than equivalent-size models, as a result of the high-rate urethane insulation used.
The unit has "the largest storage capacity for a French door refrigerator," while fitting into a standard footprint, the company claims.
Using the new high-rated urethane insulation technology means the thickness of the refrigerator walls can be cut from 2.04 inches (5 cm) to 1.38 inches (2.5 cm), resulting in the extra 4 cu.ft of space. Samsung emphasised that the impressive aspect of the insulation is that it allows this extra space with no increase in the size of the refrigerator - while "still providing quality insulation."
"Samsung is always looking for ways to help meet the needs of our consumers - our super capacity French door refrigerator is just another example of this," said James Politeski, vice president of Home Appliance Sales & Marketing, in a Samsung statement.
