Brussels - PU Europe, which represent the rigid polyurethane foams industry in Europe, has elected Paul Werbrouck, group general manager insulation at Recticel NV/SA, as its new president, with a two-year mandate.
The group's general assembly on 8 Oct also elected Ilkka Pohjoismaki and Peter Fookes as association vice-presidents with a similar mandate. Pohjoismaki is the managing director of SPU Systems Oy of Finland, and Fookes is European segment leader - insulation board and can foam at BASF Polyurethanes (UK).
Paul Werbrouck is a Belgian civil engineer and has worked in the insulation industry since 1974. In a PU Europe statement, he stressed the will of the European polyurethane insulation industry to offer durable and sustainable solutions for low- and zero-energy buildings and hence respond to the urgent need of reducing the energy demand of new and existing buildings.
"If Europe wants to achieve its 2020 and 2050 climate goals, bold measures to renovate the existing buildings stock are indispensable," he asserted. "Too often, investments in energy efficiency are seen as a cost and not a benefit for end-users and society as a whole. The energy efficiency industry must step up its communication efforts to address this information gap", he concluded.
