Croydon, United Kingdom – A polyurethane material that locks together on impact has been incorporated into an insole to help athletes improve performance and avoid injury.
UK-based PU developer D3O partnered with Enertor to create an insole that provides an energy return like Adidas’ Boost technology but will also react to force trauma in ways to dissipate the force if impact. The firm said it has scientifically proven by an independent testing house that the D3O insole improves performance and reduces the risk of injury.
D3O said 36% of the wearers' energy is returned with each footstep and the material also reduces shock by 44%.
According to the company: “It’s a smart material that cushions the foot when moved slowly, but locks together on impact to absorb and disperse energy, before instantly returning to its flexible state. This unique characteristic provides enhanced shock absorption.”
