New York - Among the potential projects highlighted by LyondellBasell ceo Jim Gallogly at an 8 Dec investor day in New York was a Chinese PO/TBA (propylene oxide/tertiary-butyl alcohol) plant.
LyondellBasell said it has signed an agreement to conduct a joint feasibility study to construct a world scale PO/TBA plant in Ningbo, China, with Sinopec. The study will recommend the final scope of the project, costs and a construction schedule for a new joint venture plant.
Gallogly told participants that LyondellBasell is well positioned for the future. The company has had successive quarters of record results and delivered $5500 million of earnings (EBITDA) over the last 12 months.
Other projects include ethylene expansion at La Porte, Texas, restart of a 780 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) methanol plant at Channelview, Texas, the possibility of a new metathesis unit at Channelview to increase propylene production by 500 million pounds per year, and butadiene expansion at Wesseling, Germany, to 238 ktpa, by debottlenecking.
Gallogly said, "While only at the feasibility stage, a new PO plant in China offers the potential to be the lowest-cost site in the world. "
