Farmington, Connecticut -- Otis Elevator Co.'s joint venture in China, Xizi Otis, has signed a new contract with Chinese real estate developer Longfor Properties under which Xizi Otis will deliver and install 442 elevators and 10 escalators for residential and commercial projects in four cities.
The order, which includes energy-saving Gen2 elevators with ReGen drives, is the second Longfor has given to Xizi Otis, the largest of Otis' 10 joint ventures in China. Otis is part of United Technologies Corporation
Gen2 elevators use flat, polyurethane-coated steel belts and reduce energy consumption by up to 50 percent compared with conventional systems. When combined with ReGen drives, the Gen2 system delivers energy savings of up to 75 percent. Otis said that ReGen drives also capture the energy usually lost by the elevator system as heat during braking and feed it back into a building's internal electrical grid for use by other systems connected to the same network such as lighting.
Otis president Didier Michaud-Daniel said in a 7 July company statement: "This selection underscores [Longfor's] confidence in the reliability and performance of our elevators and escalators, as well as the value of our energy-conserving technology for high-quality real estate projects."
Xizi Otis will provide the elevators and escalators for residential and office buildings in Beijing and three western China cities: Chongqing, Chengdu and Xi'an. In 2007, Longfor Properties awarded Xizi Otis a contract for 344 elevators and escalators for projects in Chongqing, Chengdu and Beijing.
