Brussels — After five years of existence, a passive house in Brussels is still achieving "quasi zero energy demand even during winter months," said Jorg Palmersheim of ISOPA and Arnaud Duvielguerbigny of PU-Europe, in a joint statement.
The passive house was built in 2011 and consumes 50 kWh/m2 . The German passive house standard defines a passive house as having a total energy use of 120 kWh/m2 including space heating, domestic hot water and domestic electricity. The Brussels house has a net energy demand of 15 kWh/m2 including space heating.
