Leverkusen-Patrick Thomas will become chairman of Bayer MaterialScience AG, when Dr Hagen Noerenberg retires on 31 Dec 2006, after 30 years with Bayer Group.
"Given his more than 25 years' international experience in the chemical industry, we are convinced of Patrick Thomas' ability to drive forward our business with high-techpolymer materials, " said Bayer AG chairman Werner Wenning. In Bayer's announcement on the appointment.
British-born Thomas is well known in the polyurethanes sector from his time with ICI Polyurethanes and its successor, Hunstman's polyurethanes business. He will join BMS on 15 August.

Thomas began his career with Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in the UK, in Pharmaceuticals and Agrochemicals. In 1989 he joined ICI Polyurethanes in Belgium, and in 1993 became regional director for Europe, Africa & Middle East. Four years later he was appointed global ceo.
In 1999 Thomas joined US chemicals company Huntsman as president of the Polyurethanes, Performance and Advanced Materials Divisions, in Belgium. In 2003 he was named corporate executive vice president of Huntsman Matlin Patterson. Since 2005 he has been working as a management consultant.
