Pervomaysky, Russia -- PCC SE and Russia’s chemical company JSC Shchekinoazot - are partnering to build a 20kT/year dimethyl ether (DME) plant in the Tula region, around 180km south of Moscow.
One use for the chemical is in polyurethane foam for building applications, said PCC SE.
It is generally used as a blowing agent for PU insulation foams.
“Our intention is to implement the DME project together with the chemicals company JSC Shchekinoazot. The modern methanol plant already in existence there will ensure a secure raw material base for the new DME production operation.
“The new project company will be called OOO DME Aerosol and is a 50/50 jv between PCC SE and JSC Shchekinoazot.
“The basic engineering package was commissioned to Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Uhde Engineering in September 2013 and completed in July 2014. The supply contract for the plant’s primary equipment was signed in November 2014,” according to PCC SE.
Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2017.
