Malmo, Sweden — Perstorp's specialties and solutions division, which includes specialty polyols and the firm’s Capa business, saw fourth-quarter sales in 2017 reach SEK868 m ($103 m).
Perstorp benefits from tight capralatone market
This is up 29% on the same period in 2016, according to the company. Perstorp benefitted from 'transitory' caprolactone market tightness.
Perstorp said the specialties and solutions division also benefited from stronger organic sales in all business units. Margins increased with a 'more positive product mix,' said the company.
Jan Secher, president and ceo said: 'The supply constraints of the general caprolactone market experienced in the third quarter continued also in the fourth quarter. This market situation is transitionary and Perstorp has been able to demonstrate strong market leadership.'
In the fourth quarter EBITDA was SEK 187 m compared to SEK 117 m in the fourth quarter of 2016.
This is a rise of just under 60%. The margin increased to 22%. This was due to strong sales volumes and positive foreign currency effects.
The specialties and solutions business accounts for approximately 24% of Perstorp’s sales.
Over 2017, sales in the specialties and solutions division were SEK3.2 bn. This compares with SEK2.6 bn in 2016. This is an increase of 22.4%. And over the year ebitda at SEK725 m was up SEK53 m on the 2015 numbers.
Overall in 2016, the company had sales of SEK 13.6 bn up 20% from the SEK11.3 bn in 2016. EBITDA margin was flat year to year at 15.2% taking earnings at this level to SEK2.7 bn.
