Orangeburg, South Carolina -- Gulbrandsen Chemicals Inc. is to increase the prices worldwide for all its CP-2 and other chlorinated phosphate ester flame-retardant products by up to 25 percent. The increase takes effect for deliveries on or after 1 Oct 2008 or as contracts permit.
According to US-based Gulbrandsen, "the increases are needed to help offset the enormous increases in the costs of phosphorus-based raw materials, energy and transport."
The company added that "An unprecedented global change in elemental phosphorus supply along with other key raw material used in the manufacture of flame retardants is driving this increase in prices."
CP-2 flame retardants are used in a wide range of flexible polyurethane foams for both residential and automotive seating and for bedding applications.
