Leverkusen, Germany -- In future, Bayer MaterialScience is to market all its thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films under the Platilon name. Previously Bayer's Epurex Films GmbH & Co. KG subsidiary has sold TPU films as Walopur, Walotex and Platilon.
"This move will enable Epurex Films, as one of the leading European manufacturers of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films, to work more openly and effectively with its customers, to further increase awareness of the name Platilon and to strengthen its position on the international markets," said Rüdiger Heins, head of sales and marketing at Epurex Films, in the company's 30 March announcement.
TPU films find uses in many demanding applications -- breathable but watertight membranes for outdoor clothing, special plasters for a healthy wound climate to encourage rapid healing, and intermediate layers for bulletproof glass, BMS notes.
Epurex often develops high-tech products for such outlets in close cooperation with customers. "Strengthening Platilon and integrating it into the Functional Films segment ... will enable customers to benefit from the innovative film development environment," at the company, Heins added.
