Tokyo -- An increase in domestic demand for polytetramethylene ether glycol-based polyurethane (PTMEG) bolstered Hodogaya Chemical Group during 2013, according to its interim financial report.
The company’s specialty polymers segment also enjoyed an increase in exports of adhesives in 2013 “as a result of the weakening of the Japanese Yen”, said the report. The segment’s sales amounted to JPY6bn ($57.9m).
The company’s functional polymers are used in materials for clothing, automobiles, industrial components and leisure products.
In construction – a market the Hodogaya report said had proved flat in Japan in 2013 – the company supplies urethanes for waterproofing (building and parking structure roofs) and cementicious waterproofing – for example in sewage facilities and water treatment plants.
