Alpharetta, Georgia -- A protective cap worn over the helmets of American footballers uses polyurethane to combat friction if players’ heads collide with objects and other players.
The cap’s manufacturers, POC Ventures, claim the accessory can reduce the impact of a collision by up to 33%.
President & CEO of The Hanson Group, Lee Hanson, and wife Erin, co-own the business and insist that “soft sided technology reduces impact.”
The pair are battling US standards body NOCSAE (National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic equipment) over the innovations compliance. The organisation’s view has not prevented two Football Bowl Subdivision teams using them and late in 2014, the University of Toledo was seeking to kit its team with the caps.
