By Liz White, UT contributing editorBrussels-In 2003, the powder coatings market in central and eastern Europe had a volume of over 50 kilotonnes, valued at more than Euro 160 million, according to a new study from Irfab Chemical Consultants, which tracks the growth of the market to 2013. About half this volume is locally manufactured and the balance imported, with about 30 powder coatings manufacturers in the countries analysed. The market in the Middle East and Africa is at the same level-well over 50 kilotonnes, Irfab said. Penetration of powder coatings by country varies from 4 percent up to 10 percent, and Irfab says there is "still plenty of room for increased penetration of powder coatings in the entire region." Annual growth rates of 7 percent and higher per year, mean that by 2013, the total market in central and eastern Europe and the Middle East and Africa will be over 200 kilotonnes. The study reports: * imports/exports by individual country;* market shares by local producers and importers; * sourcing of selected raw materials; * trends in novel powder coating technologies: MDF, UV, thin-film technology; * listing of traders/importers.It also covers issues such as the shift of powder coatings manufacturing from west to eastern Europe and looks at joint ventures and other commercial agreements. The study provides key market information by country, by application, by chemistry and profiles of powder coatings manufacturers.Irfab said it is also publishing a similar study of the Asian powder coatings market 2003-2013.
