Exton, Pennsylvania-Market researchers Principia Partners is to produce a study on the US market for siding and exterior trim, which it says has grown to a combined value of $12000 million in the building products industry.
These products add to residential homes attractiveness, and key drivers "continue to be ease of installation, natural appearance and low maintenance," says Principia.
Wood dominates in exterior trim, with over 70 percent of the market, but Principia says synthetics have "come on strong due to their low maintenance and ease of installation." These include cellular polyvinylchloride, polyurethane foam, and wood-plastic composites, which are all vying for a share of the trim market.
Principia Partners is conducting a comprehensive multi-client study called Residential Siding and Trim 2006, due to be finished in October 2006.
In siding, vinyl takes about 40 percent of the market, but many alternatives compete, including fibre cement, wood, stone and moulded polypropylene.
