Osnabruck, Germany – Aerogel-it has bought the Slentite polyurethane aerogel technology from BASF. It is to commercialise the material.
PU Aerogels change hands
'We achieve outstanding combination of properties with our aerogels based on natural raw materials,' said Marc Fricke, managing director for the business at BASF.
The materials were developed by Fricke at BASF as very high-performance insulation, but it could also be used for the load and release of active substances, Fricke said.
These products are, unlike many other aerogels, mechanically strong. Although they are 99% air, they have a very fine pore structure. This gives them a large internal surface area, and enables them to operate as good insulators.
