Guangzhou, Guangdong – Hairma Chemicals, a Guangzhou-based maker of epoxy soybean oil and soy-based polyols, showcased its soy-based adhesive developed earlier this year for electronic components at the PU China 2017 event.
PU China: Hairma showcases soy-based adhesive

‘It could be used as a replacement of castor oil based adhesives, the feedstock of which has very limited supply and unstable price,’ the company’s sales manager Zhou Qincheng told UTECH-polyurethane.com in an exclusive interview.d
‘It also avoids bubbling problems on the surface, common in castor oil based products,’ Zhou added.
Soy-based rigid foam has finer cells and lighter weight, said Zhou. Hairma’s products are also in auto seating by brands such as Yanfeng and Lear.
With 12kT/year overall capacity, Hairma has already doubled its 2016 sales over the first eight months of 2017, thanks to the clients’ increasing environmental awareness and the rising price of petro-based polyols caused by China’s tightening environmental regulations.
‘Now our polyol’s price per ton is CNY 1,000 ($153) lower than that for petro-based polyols,’ said Zhou, expecting the company to double its sales again in 2018.
