Suzhou, Jiangsu – Fibreglass-reinforced polyurethane composites are becoming increasingly popular in sheep pens in China’s grazing areas.
In regions such as Inner Mongolia’s Hulunbuir and Xilingol, it used to cost CNY130,000 ($19,700) to build a typical sheep pen, with a warranty period of 10 years, according to Zhang Fuxiang, general secretary of the China Fibreglass Industry Association.
Today, the cost has been reduced to CNY90,000 with the help of slotted floors made with polyurethane pultrusion composites, and the warranty period is extended to up to 20 years, Zhang said at a conference held in November by the China Polyurethane Industry Association.
Zhang has also been promoting PU composite slotted floors for pig houses in Henan and Jilin provinces as a replacement for cement and cast iron. He is also working on building assembled houses using composite materials for herdsman households in Inner Mongolia.
Zhang urged PU machinery makers to develop moulding equipment to help meet this new demand.
