Dubai, UAE - Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building at over 800 metres high, is using polyurethane coated belts in 24 of its 57 elevators, which reduce energy consumption by up to 50 percent, compared to conventional elevator units, a 30 Dec statement from Emaar Properties said.
The energy-efficient 'green technology' Gen2 "machine-roomless" elevators from Otis do not require additional lubrication and are cleaner for the environment, the statement said.
Burj Dubai has 160 floors and the highest main service elevator in the world at 504 m, which travels at 9m/second. The building also has the world's longest travelling distance for an elevator, Emaar said.
"The advanced elevator technologies used in Burj Dubai are designed for seamless performance with a focus on safety, efficiency and the convenience of users," said Abdulla Lahej, executive director, Dubai Project management, Emaar Properties. (RD)
