Brussels – A joint statement from the Coalition for Energy Savings and Smart Energy Europe (smartEn) is urging the EU to prioritise energy efficiency and demand side flexibility in the transition to clean energy. PU Europe, the trade association for rigid PU and PIR insulation producers, is a member of the Coalition for Energy Savings.
The statement highlights how these measures will be key to a cost-effective transition. The organisations said they can reduce grid congestion, limit the curtailment of renewable energy, and avoid the need for expensive investments in peak generation and large-scale storage.
“The Coalition and smartEn call on the new EU institutions to empower consumers and businesses to efficiently reduce energy use and optimise consumption, unlocking both economic and environmental benefits for Europe’s energy future,” they said.
