Minneapolis, Minnesota - Powder-Solutions Inc., American distributors of the USDA accepted/3A certified BFM fitting, has released a case study detailing the improvements in working conditions for employees at the medical technology company Amedica.
Amedica processes medical grade silicon nitride ceramic powder, which is as fine as talc prior to processing, Powder-Solutions said, adding that before installing the BFM fitting, a seamless and air-tight polyurethane sleeve, powder would consistently infiltrate processing connections.
"A sand cloud is the best way I can describe it," states Jeff Goodell, Director of Facilities and Maintenance at Amedica, as he describes the working atmosphere in the powder plant. "We tried everything from rubber hose clamps to duct tape to contain this powder but it was ultimately too fine to hold."
Marv Deam, ceo of Powder-Solutions, began a consultation phase with Jeff Goodell and drew specifications showing how the BFM fitting could be customised for each piece of equipment.
"From the day I first turned on our bulk powder processing equipment with the BFM fitting installed, I was amazed," said Goodell. "There was no more sand cloud and absolutely zero powder infiltrated from the sleeve."
The statement said that working conditions were improved and labour costs were cut as frequent cleaning was no longer needed. (RD)
