Copenhagen, Denmark – A new concentration cone from mining specialist FLSmidth is designed to increase recovery and cut maintenance downtime. This reduction in maintenance frequency was possible because it is made from a customised, durable, abrasion-resistant PU, the company said.
The new Knelson GX Concentrating Cone improves recovery because enhanced water distribution within each ring. As water enters from the base, it flows through zone separator nozzles, giving a customisable fluidisation profile. The result is an even distribution of water within each ring.
The design also gives a significant increase in the active recovery surface area, the company said. This improves overall coarse and fine gold recovery.
The cone is the culmination of more than 40 years of research and operational experience, according to Mike Lefler, FLSmidth’s head of global product line for precious metal recovery. ‘It helps customers produce more with less resources, a central tenet of our MissionZero ambition to cut water and energy waste in mining by 2030,’ he said.
