The Woodlands, Texas – A window frame designed by a consortium of Huntsman, Shanghai Collodin Material Science & Technology and Owens Corning, has been named among the 40 “Best Innovation Practices” in Shanghai.
The accolade came for the consortium’s polyurethane and glass fibre TICO PUR Energy-Efficient Window and Door System, Huntsman said in a release.
The system is based around an airtight, wind-resistant frame, which can reduce heat loss by 12-18% compared to traditional aluminium framing or PVC with metal stiffeners, Huntsman claims.
The firm adds that the TICO PUR System was designed in response to China’s national drive to cut energy use in buildings.
Huntsman Polyurethanes supplies the resin system for the pultruded products based on a Rimline polyol blend and Suprace MDI isocyanate. The firm says that this wets the glass reinforcement well, and can allow high line speeds at low pull forces.
