Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -- Bayer MaterialScience llc claims that independent tests show its polyurethane glass-reinforced resin system for pultruded window frames and stiffeners is far more insulating than aluminium and steel.
Tthe thermal conductivity of the Baydur PUL 2500 resin system, as listed in the National Fenestration Rating Council's (NFRC) most recent publication of thermophysical properties, was 1.522 Btu·in/hr·ft2x °F (0.219 W per m/K), making it 729 times less thermallyconductive than aluminum and 228 times less thermally conductive thansteel, a 19 Oct statement from BMS reported.
NFRC is a neutral, non-promoting, non-profit organisation that administers the only nationally recognised, uniform independent energy rating and certification programmes that provide fair, accurate and credible information on fenestration performance - the energy-saving effectiveness of windows, doors, tubular daylighting devices and skylight products. NFRC's rating procedure is referenced by the Energy Policy Act of 1992/2005 and required by EPA's ENERGY STAR window, door and skylight program and required by the International Energy Conservation Code and ASHRAE 90.1.
Independent, third-party test results were successfully peer reviewed by NFRC according to NFRC procedures and are now available for use in NFRC-approved software that calculates window energy ratings.
