Uberlingen, Germany – PU insulation has been chosen for 180 climate-neutral apartments in a public housing scheme because of its good insulation properties and low maintenance requirements.
A total of 180 rental apartments in the Schattlisberg area of Uberlingen are being insulated, with material supplied by Puren.
PU insulation is a low-tech solution for the buildings which are designed to be energy-efficient, economical, robust, and durable. The panels are fix and forget and after end of life can be removed and recycled, said the company. Using PU enables the running costs to be kept very low over the long term.
Insulation starts with the car park,s which have 140mm insulation with a 0.18w/m2K value. The flats' massive concrete outer walls are insulated with 180mm of 0.13 W/m2K material. The sloping insulation in the roofs was 170mm, and the flat parts had an additional 80 mm of 0.1 W/m2K insulation.
The gaps between the roof and the walls were covered with more PU panels to properly insulate the buildings.
